The Commission as part of it regulatory responsibilities visited the Seaweld Engineering Ltd.’s office in Takoradi on Thursday 29th January, 2015 as part it’s Tour to the region.

The Petroleum Commission is the regulator of Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector and is mandated to regulate, manage and co-ordinate all activities in this sector for the overall benefit and welfare of Ghanaians.

In a brief visit to Seaweld, the Commission led by its board Chairman Professor Ivan Addae Mensah commended Seaweld Engineering for its relentless contribution to promoting local content in Ghana. Speaking in the attendance of the media and some members from the general public, he emphasized that the company is doing well within its short years of inception indicating that it was prudent for them as regulators to visit any such companies.

Also present at the Meeting was the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Mr. Theophilus Ahwireng who acted as the Chairman of the Meeting. He indicated the good impressions he has seen with Seaweld Engineering and the potentials existing for the company to even do more.

In an earlier part of the meeting, the CEO of Seaweld Engineering Ltd, Mr. Alfred Fafali Adagbedu, welcomed the Team to the company’s premises with a video documentary on the company’s recently completed Deck Stools Fabrication Project for MODEC Ghana for Ghana’s Second FPSO under the Tullow TEN Project. He also gave the opportunity for all to introduce themselves. Present for Seaweld were Mr. Gideon Ahoto, the Managing Director, , Mr. Dennis Adrah, the Engineering Manager and Mr. William Mickson, the Chief Accountant. Also present were Mr. Gershon Amedetor, the Logistics and Procurement Manager and Mr. Emmanuel Quayson, an IT Support Officer.

The petroleum Commission was represented by Professor Ivan Addae Mensah, the board Chairman and a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Mr. Theophilus Ahwireng, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Ms Victoria Emefa Headcastle, a member of the Board and other managers of the Commission.

On a Site Tour around the Company’s yard in Takoradi, the chairman of the board, Professor Addae-Mensah, on behalf of the commission indicated that the discovery of oil had raised the expectations with the people wanting to see revenues from their natural resources manifesting in their lives and the general development of the country.

According to him, managing the petroleum industry the world over has remained a daunting task, hence the need to ensure decisions reflect the tenets of laid down regulations. In this light it was prudent for them to see what an Indigenous Ghanaian company like Seaweld Engineering is doing to support the local content they are all seeking to promote.
